Our current portfolio has about 130 holdings. We may increase or reduce this number depending on overall market situation or availability of good plays. Each symbol has different weight in our portfolio and frequently traded symbols may go up and down very quickly in their weight.
By trading penny stocks for some time we realized that it could be a very good to know how the overall "penny" market is doing every day, every single minute. So, we started tracking a PennyStocks100 INDEX - an equally weighted portfolio of 100 (not more or less, but exactly 100) penny stocks. It's a new thing for us and we don't have well established guidelines to decide whether a symbol belongs to this Penny Index or not, but at this point we follow these rules:
- No Pink Sheets or the Over the Counter Bulletin Board (OTCBB) stock (although we may trade them)
- Price range from $0.10 to $5.00 per share
After cleaning up our portfolio from those two categories we still had more than 100 symbols.
To select INDEX 100 we ranked our trading portfolio holdings by highest average weight and longest average time in the portfolio. We picked top 100 and that's how PennyStock100 INDEX was born!
We track the index since Sept 7, 2009. Below is the latest snapshot of the Index performance.
Important Note: Our real PennyStocks100 portfolio performance may be very different from the PennyStock100 INDEX performance. First, each INDEX component has equal weight; second we trade more than 100 INDEX stocks; finally, in real life we hedge our risks using SDS.

Sometimes, the hassles of tracking and making computations for many penny stock categories can get the best of any stock trader. Fortunately, here are stock filters or stock screeners to assist with the job. You will have the opportunity to filter through thousands of penny stock investment opportunities, which will allow for an initial list of hot penny stock list.
